and ginger

I know you think now is a good time to go on a detox, but really it isn’t. Consider the impact going alcohol, fat and sugar-free will have on your poor, trembling body. Your internal organs have only just got comfortable operating entirely on Harveys Bristol Cream and your skin is looking pink and plump on a diet of Christmas tree chocolates and brandy butter.

In fact, you’re looking plump all over. Isn’t that a good thing? You’re sporting the well-dimpled thighs and swinging chin of success. “Look at me,” your stately waddle says. “I was able to buy and eat more Stilton than was strictly necessary.”

No, now is a terrible time to try to cut anything from your diet. Especially when the January chill is so nippy and biting. You need a nice thick layer of flesh on your outsides and the warm glow of alcohol on your insides. In fact, what you need is a hot toddy.

Vodka and ginger hot toddy
Serves 1

30ml vodka
30ml ginger wine
1 thick slice orange

1 Pour the vodka and ginger wine into a heatproof glass or mug. Add the slice of orange and top up with steaming hot water – about 200ml should do it. Stir and drink.

  1. Haha, I like your point of view! Cheers and happy new year.

    Mmmmm, that sounds lovely. Much more fun than a detox!

  3. My thoughts exactly! I hate January detox/diet regimes. It’s still winter, as mammals we should be pudgier, at least until February.

    And THAT’s what I need to do with all that leftover booze from the NYE party…

    @freshandfoodie Happy new year to you too!

    @Nora Detoxes are the antithesis of fun.

    @beccarothwell Exactly!

    @Carla You have leftover booze? You clearly weren’t trying hard enough on NYE. Hot toddy it all now!

    Oh, I love this! I have both leftover vodka and ginger wine at home. I think I might have to make myself a reviving one of these after my first post-Christmas visit to the gym this evening.

    Here via Meemalee’s kitchen.
    I am going to follow you on the strength of this post alone because it speaks to the well padded person that I am. There is no thin person trying to get out, there’s just me wanting cake.

    @misscay Gym followed by vodka – a perfectly balanced life.

    @Rose Cottage Thank you 🙂

    @Lisa Any friend of Meemalee is a friend of mine; glad to have you here!

    Oooh yes. Chub up for winter, that’s what I say.

    Quick question for you: would you be able to tell me where you got that amazing glass mug? I have been looking for that exact one but cannot find it anywhere.

    Thanks for the recipe!

      Hi Kat, I picked that glass up in Peckham. There’s a homewares store in the arcade that sells everything form cake tins to plastic tubs and they had these heatproof glasses. Not quite a pound shop, but something like. Not sure if that helps or not!
