It’s St David’s Day tomorrow. A day for singing, poetry reciting, daffodil and leek wearing and eating slices of fruit bread thickly smeared with butter if you’re Welsh. If you’re not Welsh, then most of the above can be skipped in favour of just eating the fruit bread.
Bara Brith is a cross between a bread and a cake that can either be made with yeast or as a tea bread with baking powder. I’ve made the latter kind, stuffed with dried fruits and mixed spice, for Aol Lifestyle and you can find the recipe for it here. Tea is essential with bara brith, singing optional.
